Four and Fabulous

September 17, 2009

I read somewhere that labs don’t really reach adulthood until the age of 3. Greta and Waldo, our black lab twins, turned four today- but they still behave like wild and crazy puppies.

To celebrate, I baked them a big batch of peanut butter biscuits, in bone shapes. I based it on the recipe here, with a few changes: I made my own peanut butter out of peanuts and olive oil in the food processor, and replaced the corn oil with olive oil. They love it.

Then again, is there anything these dogs don’t love? They’re such joyous dogs.

What a blog is

May 14, 2009

Is it wrong to start things off with a rant?

Lately, I’ve been hearing and reading more and more people getting the word “blog” all wrong. Today, for example, I read a comment on a Facebook status update that said something like “Please let me comment on the above blogs”. He meant, of course, the comments above his. Which, I’m sorry, are definitely not blogs. They’re not even blog posts. They’re comments on a Facebook status update.

“A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.”

Now that’s what a blog is.

I promise myself…

June 13, 2007

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on my side, as long as I am true to the best that is in me.
